summary The paper describes the process of developing a curriculum for a new postgraduate study programme European master in construction IT. The development project is significant in a few ways. First, it addresses Construction Information Technology, a field, which is rarely seen as a main topic in university programmes. Although IT has been used in construction since the invention of the first electronic digital computer, the other characteristics of using computers in construction are strong enthusiasm and inconsistency, which in long term led to isolated and ineffective solutions. One important way to improve the situation is to educate specialists with adequate knowledge in civil engineering as well as information technology. Some universities already offer courses, which follow this paradigm, but these courses are too few and to different to sufficiently form recognizable specialists in the wider area. Second, the elaborated programme is being developed by seven partner universities and will run on most of them in collaboration. Each university will deliver the best it can offer and get the best from the others. Since all areas of the Construction Information Technology are rarely covered by a single university, such approach is of significant importance. Third, students will attend subjects in different ways. Face to face at home universities, face to face at partner universities, as well as by means of open and distant learning. In this way students will not only get the best subjects, but will also get the very important experience of other universities, and of using IT in the learning process.
